Expired food??????????

Is it illegal to knowingly sell expired food? I bought a snack mix at the gas station today. I tried it later and it tasted like dust. I searched the bag for the expiration and found that they had intentionally covered it (December 2010) with a big orange price sticker. What can I do, if anything?
